Best In The Desert Update, Silver State 300

October 9, 2023
Best In The Desert Update, Silver State 300

The Fusion team was well represented at the 2022 Best In the Desert Jimco Racing Silver State 300 with two Spec Trick Trucks, the 6150 Herling Racing truck piloted by the team of Jerry Herling & Bill O’Hare and the 6160 Herling Racing truck piloted by the team of Joe Herling & Dave Heath. Fusion also debuted the T-4 truck in its first Best In The Desert race. Check out more on this amazing truck in this article about the building of the T-4. The 4163 truck turbo 4-cylinder was piloted by the team of Reed Shaleen & Levi Lugo. Rounding out our entries was the 1936 Polaris RS1 driven by Cash Shaleen. Fusion also assisted the #42 Trick Truck driven by Ryan Prosser by providing pit and fueling service.

Friday’s qualifying started out well with Joe Herling setting up the 6160 with a 6th place in line. Jerry Herling was on track to put the 6150 in a good spot, but an unfortunate roll-over near the finish had the 6150 in the back of the pack. The good news was no injuries and no unrepairable damage with the exception of the fiberglass, so the team was able to put in some long hours to get the 6150 on the start line.

Race day started out well with all four vehicles getting into the fray from the start. Our pit and chase crews had the pits dialed and all the pit stops went well without issues. The T-4 would have to bow out at pit 2 due to a part failure, but ran great until that point. Rocks were the big challenge of the day causing several flats, but both the 6150 and 6160 finished without any major issues, both with top ten in class finishes. Jerry Herling wound up in 8th place and Joe Herling would finish in 10th. Cash drove most of the course with the Polaris RS1 but unfortunately wasn’t quite able to get it over the finish line without assistance causing a DNF. Ryan Prosser had a great debut with his new Trick Truck earning a 7th in class finish.
